Byron Donalds Wants Florida, Not Washington

As questions continue about his long-term political future, Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is attempting to keep voters focused on Florida.

Speaking during a campaign stop in Hardee County, Donalds said he has “no interest” in returning to Washington and remains focused on becoming Florida’s next governor.

The comments are notable because speculation about Donalds’ national ambitions has followed him throughout his political rise. For now, however, he is emphasizing Tallahassee over Washington.

Why it matters: Donalds is signaling to Republican voters that his attention is on Florida’s governor’s race rather than future presidential possibilities.

🗳️ Election Watch

Ashley Moody Secures Firefighter Endorsement

U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody picked up support from the Florida Professional Firefighters union this week.

The organization cited Moody’s support for first responders and public safety initiatives throughout her time as Attorney General and now in the Senate.

The endorsement adds another statewide organization to Moody’s growing coalition ahead of November.

Florida GOP Preparing Congressional Debate Stage

The Republican Party of Florida announced congressional debates for candidates running in Florida’s 19th and 25th Congressional Districts during the upcoming Sunshine State Showdown.

While not a major campaign development by itself, the event will offer candidates one of the first significant opportunities to reach grassroots activists and Republican voters.

This week, Ingoglia identified more than $165 million in spending within Osceola County’s budget that he believes could be reduced while maintaining core government services.

The review is part of a broader statewide effort tied to the property tax debate expected to dominate Florida politics heading toward November.

Religious Instruction Guidance Takes Effect

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier recently affirmed that school districts must accommodate parents who request absences for religious instruction.

The guidance coincides with updated Board of Education rules requiring districts to adopt policies permitting excused absences for religious instruction and religious observances.

Supporters argue the changes strengthen parental rights and religious liberty protections, while critics have raised concerns about classroom disruptions and implementation.
