SAN ANTONIO – Democrat Julián Castro, who was Secretary of Housing for former United States President Barack Obama (2009-2017), announced his candidacy on Saturday for the upcoming presidential elections of 2020.
“I’m running for president because it’s time for new leadership, because it’s time for a new energy, and it’s time for a new commitment to make sure that the opportunities I have had are available to all Americans,” he added.
After months of speculation, Castro announced his decision on his candidacy at Plaza Guadalupe west of San Antonio, an area highly populated by the Mexican-American community and where he himself grew up and lives.
The candidacy for president of the United States of Castro will carry the slogan “One Nation. One Destiny “or” One Nation. One destination”.
In recent months, the Democrat had hinted that he would present his candidacy, although without an official communication.
So far, only the Democratic congressman by Maryland John Delaney has officially announced his aspirations to confront Trump, who has already affirmed that he will seek re-election in the elections of November 2020.
