WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said today that he “never” worked “for Russia” in response to reports that the FBI opened an investigation to find out if he collaborated “secretly” with Moscow.
“I never worked for Russia,” Trump told reporters at the White House, before leaving for New Orleans to attend the annual farmers and growers convention.
“Not only I never worked for Russia, I think it’s a misfortune that I’m even been asked those questions because it’s all a big and huge fraud,” he said.
Trump was commenting on the information revealed by the New York Times during the weekend that the FBI began an investigation to determine if the president worked “secretly” for Russia after he fired ex FBI director James Comey.
According to
“They worried so much about the behavior of the president that they began to investigate whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against US interests,” the newspaper said.
Investigators had to consider whether Trump’s actions constituted a possible threat to US national security and tried to determine whether the president was knowingly working for Moscow or if, unknowingly, he had come under his influence.
President Trump has repeatedly criticized this investigation as “a witch hunt”
