A National Geographic journalist whose identity has not been revealed was shot in the leg in front of a home in Ciudad Juárez when several armed men ended the life of the alleged drug trafficker he was interviewing, as confirmed by the Attorney General of Chihuahua (Mexico) and local media.

The injured reporter was part of a group of four foreign journalists, including an American and two Canadians, the house where the event was recorded was a drug sales point where two members of a criminal group were murdered several months ago.

The journalist and his team, according to the prosecutor’s office, went to the prosecutor’s office before the recording “where they received the necessary information for their report, however, they did not inform them of conducting an interview at a drug sale place ”

The injured man was taken to a hospital, while his companions are under the protection of the authorities, who have already opened an investigation to find the perpetrators.

So far this year, 11 journalists and 13 human rights activists in Mexico have already lost their lives, a figure higher than in the same period of 2018, according to a UN report cited by Reuters.
