President Donald Trump confirmed Friday morning that he will not fire his counselor, Kellyanne Conway, for violating the Hatch Act, even though the Special Prosecutor’s Office recommended that she resign from her position.
The president spoke about Conway in a telephone interview with the Fox & Friends program on Friday morning: “No, I’m not going to fire her, I think she’s a great person, she’s a tremendous spokesperson, she’s been loyal, she’s a great person. ”
Trump said that although Conway is a government official, she should be able to answer questions about any topic proposed by the press.
He described Conway as “excellent” in her work and defended her answers to political questions on television.
“I think they are trying to take away her right to freedom of expression,” Trump said. “And that’s not fair.”
Trump said it would be ridiculous for her to refuse to answer questions during her interviews with the media, especially if she was responding to attacks by political candidates. “She has to have the right to answer the questions,” Trump said.
The Office of Special Counsel is the government entity that oversees compliance with the Hatch Act, a 1939 legislation that prohibits employees of the executive branch of the federal government from participating in some forms of political activity, except the president and vice president.
This is the president’s right decision because many Obama administration officials were accused of violating the Hatch Act, but nothing ever happened to them. In a world where Democrats are horribly abusing their power to continually harass President Trump, Kellyanne Conway should not have to suffer and give in to her demands for nonsense.
