Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida eloped to Southern California, married his fiancée Ginger Luckey on Catalina Island on Saturday in a modest ceremony.
The wedding was publicized on his personal Twitter profile by the 39-year-old Republican, who is being investigated as part of a sex trafficking inquiry.
He exclaimed, “I love my wife!” and attached a photo of the two of them, he was wearing a sport coat and she wore a white dress.
Sergio Gor, a former aide for Sen. Rand Paul, performed the ceremony, which was attended by around 40 people, according to Vanity Fair.
The couple had previously stated that they planned to marry next year.
A native of Southern California, Luckey works for a firm that extends the life of plant-based goods.
Joel Greenberg, a former Seminole County, Florida, tax collector, was arrested and pleaded guilty as a result of an investigation into Gaetz.
In May of last year, he was found guilty of six federal offenses involving sex trafficking, identity theft, stalking, and conspiracy to corrupt public officials, among other things.
His plea bargain with prosecutors stipulates that he must continue to cooperate with a sex trafficking investigation.
As a result of Greenberg’s plea deal, Gaetz, who represents much of the Florida Panhandle, was not named.
As for Gaetz and a 17-year-old girl, Greenberg’s assistance might be useful in the current inquiry. In the past, he has denied any misconduct.
