President Trump and his administration have been moving to put an end to the socialist dictatorship of Venezuelan “president” Nicolás Maduro and did not rule out a possible military action against Venezuelan regime.

Today we have seen an acceleration in the ongoing crisis in Venezuela that could finally get Maduro out of power and allow Venezuelans to begin a path towards the recovery of socialism.

Maduro lashed out at President Trump and his administration today after the United States offered its support to Juan Guaido, who was elected as head of the National Assembly of Venezuela and has declared himself president of Venezuela.

Maduro responded by saying that Venezuela is cutting all diplomatic relations with the United States. He then ordered all US diplomats in the country to withdraw within 72 hours or face the consequences of staying. “Before the people and nations of the world, and as constitutional president … I decided to break diplomatic and political relations with the imperialist government of the United States,” Maduro said as he spoke with supporters on Wednesday.

President Trump joined Vice President Mike Pence this afternoon to announce his support for Juan Guaidó and declare Maduro illegitimate: “The citizens of Venezuela have suffered for too long at the hands of the illegitimate regime of Maduro. Today, I have officially recognized the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, as Acting President of Venezuela. “

The newly elected Brazilian president Bolsonaro and even Canada have recognized Maduro’s challenger, Guaidó, as president. Maduro said that Trump was making a “grave mistake” in recognizing Guaidó as the Acting President, but thousands of people in Venezuela held protests against Maduro today.

At this point, if Guaidó can expel Maduro completely, it depends on the Venezuelan military and where his loyalties are. It seems likely that they will abandon Maduro because Guaidó has the support of the United States Army. President Trump revealed that he is willing to use the US military. to support Guaidó, which is something that can not be ignored: “We are not considering anything, but all the options are on the table.”

Trump also said in a statement today that “the people of Venezuela have spoken courageously against Maduro and his regime and have demanded freedom and the rule of law.” This could end up being a historic victory for freedom and capitalism over socialism. Maduro will resist and fight to the end because he could end up in jail for his crimes against the people of Venezuela, or worse if he can not flee the country.
