Independent Journalism for Florida
Founded in 2016, The Florida Pundit is an independent digital newsroom covering Florida politics, elections, government accountability, public policy, investigations and the issues shaping life across the Sunshine State.
Our mission is to deliver accurate, timely and well-sourced reporting while providing the context readers need to understand decisions made by elected officials, government agencies, courts and political campaigns.
As Florida continues to influence national politics and public policy, readers deserve journalism built on verified facts, transparent sourcing and independent editorial judgment.
Our Story
The Florida Pundit was launched during the 2016 election cycle with a clear purpose: to create an independent publication focused on Florida’s political landscape and the decisions affecting its residents.
What began as a Florida political news site has developed into a growing newsroom covering statewide and local elections, government accountability, legislative activity, campaign finance, public policy and investigations.
Today, The Florida Pundit publishes daily political and public-affairs coverage while continuing to expand its use of public records, court documents, audits and government databases.

How We Report
The Florida Pundit relies on primary sources whenever possible. These include:
- Court filings and judicial orders
- Legislation and government reports
- Campaign-finance disclosures
- State and local audits
- Public meeting agendas and minutes
- Election records and candidate filings
- Agency news releases and official correspondence
- Documents obtained through public-records requests
We submit records requests directly to government agencies and through transparency platforms such as MuckRock.
A public-records request, complaint or allegation is not by itself proof of wrongdoing. Our responsibility is to examine the underlying documents, seek responses from the people involved and clearly distinguish verified facts from allegations, opinions and partisan claims.
Our Editorial Principles
The Florida Pundit believes journalism should inform the public, examine institutions and hold public officials accountable.
Our reporting is guided by these principles:
- Accuracy before speed
- Transparent sourcing and attribution
- Reliance on evidence and primary records
- Independent editorial judgment
- Clear separation of news and opinion
- Fair opportunities for response
- Prompt and visible corrections
- Accountability regardless of political affiliation
Our goal is not to tell readers what to think. Our goal is to provide the facts, records and context they need to reach their own conclusions.
Editorial Independence
The Florida Pundit operates independently.
Our editorial decisions are not directed by political parties, government agencies, candidates, advertisers, lobbying organizations, donors or special interests.
Contributors and readers may hold different political views, but our newsroom’s responsibility remains the same: report accurately, disclose relevant sourcing and pursue accountability without regard to party affiliation.
