Another Parkland shooting survivor commits suicide

Another Parkland shooting survivor from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has committed suicide, Coral Springs police confirmed Sunday.

The Miami Herald cites investigators, according to which the student died of “an apparent suicide” on Saturday night.

Although police could not confirm the student’s age, Coral Springs police spokesman Tyler Riek said the student was a teenager. Sources cited by the Miami Herald indicate that the student was a high school sophomore. His name has not been released yet.

David Hogg, the school’s student leader, who gained notoriety for his fight for gun control after the school shooting, wrote on Twitter: How many more kids have to be taken from us as a result of suicide for the government / school district to do anything?

Hogg closes his message by writing the phrase Rest in Peace (RIP), accompanied by the numbers 17 + 2 (17 the number of people killed in the Parkland school shooting and 2 students survivors of the massacre who have committed suicide in the last week).

The death of this second student happens almost a week after Sydney Aiello, a former graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas School committed suicide after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Disorder.

The Broward County Coroner’s office told NBC News that Aiello was shot in the head.
