Trump says that recognizing Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights will have no consequences

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that his decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights “will have no consequences” since “everyone is happy” and because he will be “there to protect Israel.”

“Everyone is happy, and there will be no consequences, there will be no consequences because I will be there to protect Israel, so, you do not do anything,” said the President during his speech at the Republican Jews Coalition conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On March 25, the US president broke the international consensus again by officially recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, a gesture that justified Iran’s “aggression” and that took on a political tone, given the proximity of the country. the Israeli elections.

Trump said he took this decision without being asked, but he did so because he knows the strategic importance of this enclave located on the border between Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan.

“Never fight uphill, many battles are lost by those generals who want to fight uphill, is not it? Height is necessary,” he said.

Although the measure is in conflict with UN Security Council Resolution 242, which after the 1967 war called on Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories in that conflict, and has been interpreted as a provocation by numerous Arab countries, Trump said he would love to see peace in the Middle East.

Presiden Trum did not hesitate to charge against the international body and said that Washington will not tolerate “any anti-US, anti-Israeli or anti-Semitic stance” within the UN.

Trump, who was greeted by a group of critics at the beginning of his speech, who were escorted out for the safety of the venue, also launched criticism of NATO, just two days after his ministerial meeting in Washington.

“We protect them and they are defaulters, to use a real estate term (…) I told them ‘they have to pay'”, declared the President, who at the beginning of the week was satisfied with the increase in spending in Defense undertaken by the majority of NATO allies.
