Democratic Sen. Cory Booker admitted that there is a problem at the southern border during a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday and considered that members of his Democratic party cannot ignore the country’s immigration problems.
During a campaign event in Bluff, Iowa, Booker criticized the policies of US President Donald Trump, including the construction of a border wall between the two countries, but stressed the need to have a strong defense in the border areas to control illegal immigration.
“We have a problem on the southern border. Democrats must not deny that we have it. Nations must have borders, borders must be respected, “he said in the midst of his speech.
“And so, my problem with this president is number one, his technologies do not work, I went down to the border, I got together with Customs and Border Protection and other people from the border patrol and they said, ‘There’s no way we need a wall from coast to coast ‘, We are at a time when you can use sensors, technologies, drones and much more to protect the border, which is what we must do, “said the Democratic senator on the issue.
Senator Booker’s comments come just as President Trump has weighed the possibility of sending migrants seeking asylum to the so-called “sanctuary cities,” even though the measure has already been rejected by Democrats and senior officials, claiming it would be an illegal action
Trump’s struggle to build the border wall led him to declare, last February, a State of National Emergency, which granted him temporary power to redirect the budget of other departments to the materialization of the wall between both countries.
His comments move away from the generalized declarations of the democrats on the subject of migration and they adhere much more to what President Donald Trump has said for a long time that if there is a crisis on the southern border.
