The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, will visit Tel Aviv at the end of May to strengthen the relationship between Florida and Israel.
DeSantis promised several times during his campaign that he would be the country’s most pro-Israel governor and in a recent meeting with members of the local Jewish community, he told more details about his upcoming trip to Israel.
The governor of Florida will visit Israel between May 25 and May 31, and he said, hold a meeting of his government cabinet in Jerusalem.
During his trip, DeSantis will be accompanied by congressmen and special guests on a trip that he hopes will serve to promote investment in Florida, as well as seek possible cooperation so that Israeli experts help solve local problems, especially in the water and environmental area.
The Republican governor said that his support for Israel, as well as the strong relationship between the countries, comes from the “common values” between Israel and the US.
DeSantis was also one of the main leaders in the fight against Airbnb’s decision to boycott Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) and instructed to put the company under state scrutiny for its boycott policy.
“We have a moral obligation to oppose the Airbnb policy, it specifically targets Jews, I think that’s wrong,” DeSantis said after the decision.
“Airbnb claims that it is an inclusion company, but this policy only affects Jews who have homes in the West Bank,” lamented Governor DeSantis.
Recently, Airbnb announced that it was withdrawing its decision to boycott these communities.
DeSantis is a member of the Republican Party and won the elections in Florida with 49.9% of the votes, surpassing by 1% the Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum.
DeSantis has the support of President Donald Trump and has favorable positions to the State of Israel on various issues, which he defended during the 6 years he was a member of Congress. For example, he was at the forefront of the struggle to recognize Israeli sovereignty in the Golan Heights, something that Trump recently reaffirmed.
