‘Cages’ For Migrants Were Built By Obama Administration, Not By Trump

The cages that house migrant children have been one of the images that have most polarized the debate on border control between Mexico and the U.S., as they accuse Trump of being the executor. However, former Obama ICE Director declared that the “cages” were created by the previous administration.

“I’ve been in that facility, where they talk about cages. That facility was built under Obama’s presidency, under Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson. I was there when it was built, “said Thomas Homan, Obama’s associate executive director of Immigration and Customs Control during the second term of the former Democratic president, a position he still has.

During a conference organized by the Center for Immigration Studies, faced with the question of whether children are still in cages, “Children are housed in the same facilities built under the Obama administration.”, Holman stated.

He affirmed that “the Democrats and the left want to call them cages”. Then he invited those same people to “accept the fact that they were built and financed in the fiscal year 2015.” That is, under the Obama administration.

In addition, he mentions that the situation of young people crossing the border in large numbers is a recent phenomenon and insists that the Border Patrol facilities “were not built to care for children”.

He indicated that there are no so-called “cages”, they are chain link fences that separate children from adults and that are made for security.

In this regard, Holman said: “We are blessed to live in the best country in the world and I can not blame anyone who wants to live here, but we are also a country built on the basis of the rule of law.”

And he insists that anyone who wants to migrate must do so legally and become a “permanent member of society.”
