The 2019 Little League World Series Champions flew back home from Washington to Louisiana in style: aboard the US presidential plane, Air Force One.
President Trump had first met in the White House with the Eastbank All-Stars team, which is based outside New Orleans, as part of the official invitation for been the new champions of the most important youth baseball tournament.
That was when Trump asked the parents of the team members if they authorized that they could get on the Air Force One for the trip back to New Orleans, since the president was going to go to the state of Louisiana to participate in a campaign event.
After receiving acceptance, the team met Trump again at Andrews Air Force Base, in Maryland, on the runway near Air Force One, and they all boarded the presidential plane together.
The coach of the team Steve Scalise, through his Twitter account, showed a photo of the team with the presidential plane Air Force One in the background.
“The champions are flying back to Louisiana on Air Force One with President Donald Trump after celebrating our victory in the Little League World Series Championship at the White House!” Scalise said. “What a wonderful day! I am very proud of this team!”
The Eastbank All-Stars won six games in eight days, becoming the first team to win the Little League World Series after losing their first game since the tournament expanded in 2001.
Trump participated in a political event in Lake Charles on the eve of the governor’s election in Louisiana where he encouraged his supporters to vote for any of the Republican candidates fighting against Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards.
