El Paso shooting suspect pleads not guilty

El Paso shooting suspect, the 21-year-old man accused of murdering 22 people in a terrorist attack at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, pleaded not guilty this Thursday during a brief initial hearing.

Police said Patrick Crusius of Dallas confessed to the mass shooting on August 3 and that the attack was aimed at Mexicans, of which eight died.

Crucius, who after the shooting pleaded guilty and did not resist his arrest, first appeared before a judge in District Court 409 of El Paso County, where he was charged with capital murder and charged with the death of 22 people, of which eight were of Mexican nationality.

El Paso district attorney Jaime Esparza said he will seek the death penalty in the case, The Washington Post reported.

The newspaper said that the reading of the charges was carried out in the middle of a strong security force; Due to the high interest in the case, the hearing was transferred to the Ceremonial Court of El Paso, under the order of District Judge Sam Medrano.

Some of the shooting survivors and relatives of the victims attended the first Crucius hearing.
