President Donald Trump announced Thursday that when he leaves the White House his permanent residence will be Palm Beach, Florida, instead of returning to the Trump Tower in New York.
The president said that local New York leaders, such as Bill Deblasio, Ocasio-Cortez and Governor Cuomo, have treated him “very badly.” Trump wrote that the “Empire State will always have a special place” in his heart while adding that “few have been treated worse” despite paying “millions” in taxes.
A person close to the president told the New York Times that Trump’s decision to change his principal residence was largely for tax purposes. Moving to Florida will allow President Trump to avoid the maximum New York state tax rate of almost 9 percent and the maximum New York City tax rate of almost 4 percent.
Donald Trump appears to be Florida’s first full-time resident president.
New York City is easily one of the most expensive places to live, especially for high-income people, because you have to pay many layers of taxes. Taxpayers in New York City have to pay local income taxes in addition to state taxes. President Trump endured it more in the past, but now, after dealing with the difficulties of being in office, it is no longer worth it.
The governor-dictator of New York, Andrew Cuomo, responded quickly to the news on social networks and said: “Good trip.” That is why the State of New York is a failed state. The state is bankrupt due to corruption and lefties programs.
Trump, born in New York, said: “my family and I will make Palm Beach, Florida, our permanent residence.” He also stressed that the White House “is the place he loves and where he wants to remain, hopefully, another five years to make America great again.”
