Former President Donald Trump hailed Rep. Anthony Gonzalez’s decision not to run for re-election on Friday by issuing a harsh warning to the other House Republicans who voted to impeach him.
“One down, nine to go!”. In a statement, Mr. Trump stated.
Mr. Gonzalez told the New York Times that he is withdrawing from his re-election bid in Ohio and will devote his efforts to ensuring that Mr. Trump never becomes president again.
“RINO Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, who has poorly represented his district in the Great State of Ohio, has decided to resign after suffering a tremendous loss of popularity, of which he had little, since his ill-informed and otherwise very stupid impeachment vote against the sitting President of the United States, me,” Mr. Trump said separately Friday.
“This is not a loss for Ohio or our country, and most importantly, we have a fantastic candidate, Max Miller, who was well ahead of Gonzalez in the polls, to whom I have offered my Complete and Total Endorsement.”
According to Mr. Trump, Mr. Gonzalez’s next stop might be “a position at ratings-dead CNN or MSDNC!”
Trump, who retains enormous clout in the party, has stated unequivocally that he will fight relentlessly to assist defeat the Republicans who attempted to depose him.
Liz Cheney, for example, lost her House Republican leadership post after refusing to tone down her criticism of the previous president.
Trump has already stated his support for Max Miller, a former Trump adviser who is running for Gonzalez’s seat
