Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced three new actions on Tuesday to combat President Joe Biden’s border crisis.
DeSantis stated at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Myers that the state of Florida is suing the Biden Administration for its “unlawful and destructive catch and release” immigration policy.
In addition, the governor issued Executive Order 21-223, known as the “Biden Border Crisis Executive Order,” which prohibits Florida state agencies from collaborating with the federal authorities on some immigration problems.
“I’m signing an executive order to prohibit state agencies that report to me, from aiding or abetting in any way what the federal government is doing right now. We’re not gonna be a party to this lawlessness. We haven’t, to my knowledge, but we’re letting the marker down, know this is an absolute red line. We’re not gonna do it,” DeSantis stated.
The Biden Border Crisis Executive Order is broken into as follows:
*Prohibits state entities within the Governor’s authority from providing assistance for the relocation of illegal immigrants in Florida.
*Directs the Florida Department of Children and Families to evaluate whether licenses for institutions that shelter unaccompanied kids should be renewed.
*Requests that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigate Florida firms’ compliance with E-Verify standards.
*Requires state agencies to collect data on the breadth and expense of illegal immigration in Florida.
*Directs the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to legitimately collect information on the number and identities of illegal aliens being transferred from the border to Florida.
*Encourages state law enforcement to detain any vehicle transporting illegal aliens if there is a reasonable suspicion that it is being utilized for human or drug trafficking.
*Requests information from state officials on the number of illegal aliens facing criminal charges or who have been convicted of crimes.
Finally, DeSantis nominated Larry Keefe, the former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, as the state’s “public safety czar” to guarantee that the Executive Order’s directives are carried out.
“We are in the midst of a calamity on our southern border that has been obvious for many, many months.
We would want to see previous policies reinstated. We have no illusions that this will occur.
So we have to make every effort to ensure that we are safeguarding the people of Florida,” DeSantis added.
