New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has tested positive for COVID-19 and is recuperating at home, her office reported on Sunday, barely over a week after she was seen partying without a mask in Florida.
“Representative Ocasio-Cortez has obtained a positive COVID-19 test result.”
“She is suffering symptoms and is healing at home,” according to the statement.
“The Congresswoman obtained her booster vaccine this autumn and encourages everyone to get their booster shot and follow all CDC recommendations.”
The leftist Dem’s positive test result came just over a week after she was pictured drinking with her partner while on vacation in Miami when omicron cases skyrocketed across the country.
On December 30, the progressive “Squad” member was caught outdoors with lover Riley Roberts, enjoying a cocktail and checking her phone at the Doraku Izakaya and Sushi restaurant.
AOC’s maskless winter vacation was chastised on social media by fans of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has been vocal in his opposition to mask laws.
“Welcome to Florida AOC!”
In response to the photo, Team DeSantis tweeted, “We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership.”
Jeanette Nunez, the lieutenant governor of Florida, also jumped in, stating, “@AOC’s New York state of mind certainly doesn’t mind being in the free state of Florida…mask free of course.”
When questioned about AOC’s trip, DeSantis mocked her in a news conference last week.
“If I had a $1 for every lockdown politician that chose to flee to Florida over the last two years, let me tell you, I’d be a very doggone wealthy man,” DeSantis remarked.
