Ted Cruz: Anthony Fauci should go to jail for lying about Covid

Senator Ted Cruz accused the president’s top medical adviser Anthony Fauci of misleading the public about the origins of the Covid virus, and particularly for lying to Congress.

Given that lying under oath is punishable in the United States, the lawmaker requests that Dr. Anthony Fauci be imprisoned for lying about Covid.

“There has been no one who has done more to destroy trust in the scientific and medical community than Dr. Anthony Fauci. He told millions of Americans lies willingly, knowingly, flippantly, and with supreme arrogance,” Cruz said. “In any sensible system he would be prosecuted for lying under oath and go to jail for lying under oath to Congress,” he added.

These statements were offered by Senator Ted Cruz on Thursday, March 2 at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) before a crowd of supporters of the Republican Party.

Reports surfaced throughout the week, including from the FBI, giving more support to the hypothesis that the virus was created in a laboratory and that the US was warned in advance.

Lying under oath is punishable by jail

Perjury, the act of swearing falsely, is punishable by a fine or imprisonment, depending on the state where it is committed. In the case of New York, where Fauci is from, the sentence is 7 years.

“Under our law, a person is guilty of perjury in the first degree when he swears falsely and when his false statement consists of testimony and is material to the action, proceeding, or matter in which it is made.” This is how the official page of the New York court details.

Since the alleged perjury against Anthony Fauci would have been committed at the federal level, this could be seen as an aggravating circumstance.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other government agencies are in charge of prosecuting federal crimes.
They often have much harsher consequences than state courts.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) “has never funded and does not currently fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Dr. Anthony Fauci told Congress.
He is responsible for it as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the NIH.

Richard Ebright, professor of chemistry and chemical biology on the board of governors at Rutgers University and laboratory director at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology, asserts that Fauci is lying.
“It is clear from the documents that the claims made by NIH Director Francis Collins and NIAID Director Anthony Fauci that the NIH does not support gain-of-function research or the potential enhancement of pandemic pathogens in Wuhan are false,” he says.

Republicans hold the House majority

Both parties’ statements are accessible at the Library of Congress. Senator Ted Cruz then urges his colleagues to investigate Fauci. It is important to remember that the forces in the legislature are divided.
While Democrats hold a majority in the Senate, Republicans control the House of Representatives.

“The House has a majority, and I am confident that we will use that majority to hold Dr. Fauci accountable, in addition to the other liars, “Ted Cruz said.
“There must be hearings regarding the origins of Covid.
We must hold hearings to investigate and present the facts regarding how Fauci misled the American people.”

Despite the fact that the Department of Energy, under the current administration, published a report stating that the coronavirus likely originated from a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China, Senator Ted Cruz believes it is unlikely that a criminal accusation will be filed against Fauci during the current administration. Therefore, he advocates for Fauci to be investigated by Congress.

Given that Anthony Fauci was in charge of the nation’s health, conservative leaders such as Senator Ted Cruz insist on launching an investigation against him for lying to the nation about Covid, as perjury in the United States carries a prison sentence.
