Biden says ‘I’ve done all I can do’ to secure the border

President Biden claimed on Tuesday, “I’ve done all I can do” to secure the US border. This comes at a time when House Republicans are attempting to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas due to his perceived inability to handle the immigration crisis.

As Biden was leaving the White House, he responded to reporters by saying, “I’ve done all I can do, just give me the power.” This comment was made while he was speaking to reporters.

The next thing that Biden said was, “I asked them the very day that I got into office.” I would like to have the Border Patrol. Hand over the judges to me. Send me the people who are able to put a stop to this.

Since May of last year, when Title 42 expulsions were finally put to an end, the administration of Vice President Joe Biden has stated that it has been increasing the consequences for illegal entry into the United States while simultaneously expanding “lawful pathways” for migrants. Since May, it has been reported that more than 500,000 people have been removed from the country, and there has been an increase in cooperation with Mexico in order to combat human traffickers and fentanyl trafficking.

According to the administration, it has also been increasing the number of removal flights, including flights that go directly to Venezuela. On the other hand, it has emphasized that it requires additional funding as well as comprehensive immigration reform in order to fix what it considers to be a “broken” administration.

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, posted a video on X that showed President Joe Biden making the remark. Johnson stated that Biden’s remarks were “simply untrue” and that “He’s either lying or misinformed.”

“The following is a selection of the authorities that are available to him; if only he would make use of them: Expedited Removal 235(b)(1), Presidential Authority to Restrict Entry 212(f), Discretionary Detention Authority 236(a), and Mandatory Detention 236(c) are all provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. No more justifications,” Johnson continued.

Under the supplemental funding request that the White House submitted to Congress, which also included requests for assistance to Israel and Ukraine, the White House requested that the border receive fourteen billion dollars in funding. Following the demand made by Republicans for increased restrictions on the release of migrants and asylum seekers into the interior, the request is currently being negotiated in Congress.

Biden has urged Congress to approve the deal; however, Republicans in the House of Representatives and some conservatives in the Senate have stated that the proposed changes do not go all the way.

Following 2.4 million encounters in the fiscal year 23 (FY23), the number of migrants officially reached 302,000 in December, setting a new record. In his handling of the border crisis, Mayorkas has been accused of a “dereliction of duty” by Republicans, who have stated that the crisis has been fueled by large releases into the interior as well as a rolling back of policies that were implemented during the Trump administration.
