Former President Joe Biden on Monday publicly acknowledged President Donald Trump’s involvement in securing a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating the release of all 20 living Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
“I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come—for the last living hostages who endured unimaginable hardships and are now reunited with their families, and for civilians in Gaza who can begin rebuilding their lives,” Biden said in a post on X.
Biden noted that the agreement was the result of extensive efforts by multiple parties. “The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, provide relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for helping get this renewed ceasefire over the finish line,” he added.
The release marks the first phase of a broader peace agreement supported by the Trump administration. As part of the deal, Israel freed more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
Biden emphasized the broader significance of the agreement: “With the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace, offering Israelis and Palestinians safety, dignity, and stability.”
Even former Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan recognized Trump’s contributions on CNN’s State of the Union. “Of course he deserves credit. I give credit to President Trump, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. These are hard jobs,” Sullivan said.
The milestone demonstrates a rare moment of bipartisan acknowledgment in U.S. foreign policy, reflecting the complex diplomacy required to achieve peace in longstanding conflicts.
