President Donald Trump fired national security adviser John Bolton, the permanent defender of US power, after months of division between them over the direction of national and foreign security policy.

Trump announced his decision on Twitter saying he has strong discrepancies with Bolton.

Bolton is considered a hardline conservator and known for his controversial foreign policy positions, which he shares as a political analyst.

“Last night I informed John Bolton that his services are no longer necessary in the White House. I strongly disagree with many of his suggestions, as well as others in the government, so I asked for his resignation, which was given to me this morning, I thank John very much for his service. I will appoint a new National Security advisor next week, “reads the president’s two tweets.

His most prominent role in recent months was his efforts to attempt a political change in Venezuela that began with the cancellation of oil purchases from that South American country and the recognition of Juan Guaidó as interim president, ignoring the authority of Nicolás Maduro.
