Former President Trump’s efforts to raise money in the aftermath of his indictment on Thursday appear to have been successful, as his campaign raised more than $4 million in less than 24 hours.
“More than 25 percent of the donations came from new donors,” the campaign explained in a statement released on Friday.
“With an average contribution of only USD 34, Trump’s 2024 campaign is funded by an unmatched coalition of hardworking patriots who are fed up with special interest donors like Soros spending billions of dollars to influence our elections,” said the campaign..
Not long after the accusation went public, an email sent by the group to capitalize on the news and gain momentum in the collection was published by several US media outlets.
“I guarantee that this Witch Hunt will blow up in Joe Biden’s face,” read the message.
Yesterday, several Republican officials, such as the probable presidential candidate and vice president during the Trump Administration (2017-2021) Mike Pence, suggested that the former president’s impeachment was politically motivated and accused the prosecutor in charge of the case, Alvin Bragg, of having partisan motivations. Pence also accused the prosecutor in charge of the case of having partisan motivations.
However, the decision to indict Trump was made by the New York grand jury and not by the prosecutor.
Donald Trump, who declared his candidacy in November, is currently the leading candidate for the Republican nomination for president in the year 2024.
The White House has refused to comment on the former president’s indictment. Friday, President Joe Biden told reporters, “I have no comment.”
His two most likely challengers, Pence, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have not yet declared their candidacy, but both have indicated they will soon do so.
