Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Hurricane Dorian

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Dorian’s arrival and has called on residents to take precautions as the Hurricane strengthens in the Caribbean, expected to hit the continental United States.

Florida authorities said they are preparing for the hurricane to land somewhere on the east coast of the state after the National Hurricane Center warned that Dorian could become a dangerous Category 3 hurricane as it approaches the Sunshine State.

Governor DeSantis called on residents of the east coast of the state to gather “provisions for 7 days, prepare their homes and stay tuned for the trajectory” ahead of Dorian’s threat.

Shortly before 2:00 pm Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center reported that Dorian’s eye was expected to move near or over the British and American Virgin Islands during the afternoon, before continuing on the waters of the Atlantic.

Dorian is moving northwest at a speed of 13 mph and is expected to continue that path for the next few days.

Several governments in counties located on the east coast of central Florida began distributing sandbags, while many of the inhabitants of that area have begun to stock up on water, canned food and emergency supplies.

The possibility of Dorian’s impact has already begun to affect tourism in the region. The Director of Lodging and Hospitality Association of Volusa County reported that reservations dropped from 75% to 50% of capacity due to cancellations.

This Thursday, Disney is scheduled to inaugurate its Star Wars Land attraction, an event that hopes to attract a huge number of people over the weekend that runs until Monday. There is still no talk about a possible cancellation.
