‘Let’s make a Deal?’ Trump invites party leaders to ‘border security’ meeting

President Donald Trump invited the leaders of both houses of Congress to the White House to an information session on border security for Wednesday.

Several media, such as CNN and The New York Times, have reported on the initiative citing White House sources.

Sources from the Congress corroborated the information explaining that they will be the 8 main parliamentary leaders who will attend the meeting, headed by the leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, and that of the minority Democrats, Chuck Schumer.

The sources indicated that the specific agenda to be addressed is not known, beyond the issue of border security and expressed their fear that it was a “White House publicity stunt”.

This will be the first meeting between Republicans and Democrats after negotiations failed last week to overcome the dispute and approve the budget for eight federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security.

In recent days, Trump has criticized, from his Twitter account, the Democrats, blaming them responsible for the situation, which affects more than 800,000 federal employees, although many of them have to work mandatorily.
