Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar announces 2020 presidential campaign

Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar announced Sunday her presidential campaign race to reach the White House in 2020.

In Minneapolis, the most populous city in the state she represents, the senator made the announcement to hundreds of fans at an outdoor event under a heavy snowstorm that covered the audience with an icy white cape.

Her followers and speakers endured freezing temperatures between 16 and 14 degrees Farenheit (-10 degrees Celsius) in a park along the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis.

“I stand before you as the granddaughter of a miner, the daughter of a teacher and a journalist, the first woman elected to the United States Senate of the state of Minnesota, to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States,” Klobuchar said.

Klobuchar, 58, has been building a national profile and developing a campaign team for some time.

Klobuchar won her re-election for a third term in the Senate last November. She was the first woman to reach the Senate in her State.

Klobuchar’s announcement comes amid reports that indicate high staff turnover in her Senate office. Former workers of the senator said on condition of anonymity to Buzzfeed that Klobuchar supposedly created a hostile work environment beacuse of her bad manners with the employees. Some others that defend the senator say that she simply demands excellence.

Klobuchar joins a list of Democratic challengers that have also announced presidential campaing races for the 2020 White House position that includes Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kamala Harris of California and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
