Nancy Pelosi wants a plane, Donald Trump says “no”

President Donald Trump took a day to exercise his executive power over the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi: he denied her a plane for a trip that she had planned abroad, apparently due to the attempt of the Democrat to postpone the State of the Union speech in the middle of the confrontation between both by the partial government shutdown.

The two most powerful leaders of the nation seemed locked in a constitutional competition as negotiations to end a paralysis that has dragged on for four weeks have not produced results.

In a letter to Pelosi, Trump said on Thursday that due to the government shutdown a trip to Egypt, Brussels and Afghanistan would be postponed, and he said: “As the magnificent 800,000 American public employees have not received their pay, I am sure you will accept that it is totally appropriate to postpone that public relations activity. “

For its part, the State Department ordered all US diplomats in Washington and other places on Thursday to resume their work next week with pay because, he said, has found resources to cover their salaries at least temporarily despite the current closure.

In a notice posted on the Internet and sent to public employees, the agency said it has obtained resources to pay the next check to the bulk of its staff. They will not be paid for the time they have worked since the beginning of the shutdown in December until the situation is resolved, according to the notice signed by William Todd, undersecretary of State for administrative matters.

The source of the money was unknown at the moment, but the department said it would take advantage of “existing resources, as well as other available fiscal powers to transfer current balances to resume payroll financing.”

Salaries will not be guaranteed after the next payment period, which ends on February 14, if the government’s closure has not ended by then, the agency said. However, he said he could “review his available balances and legal powers to see if there could be other flexibilities available.”
