Donald Trump news : Fraud Allegations Were to Safeguard Vote 'Integrity' Not to 'Overturn The Election'

Former President Donald Trump blasted “corrupt and highly partisan House Democrats” for attempting to turn his duty to pursue election integrity into an alleged attempt to “overturn the election.”

The investigations into “the rigged election of 2020” are meant to “uphold the integrity and honesty of elections, as well as the sanctity of our vote,” Trump said in a statement from his Save America PAC on Saturday.

“On Friday, the corrupt and highly partisan House Democrats who run the House Oversight Committee released documents — including court filings dealing with the rigged election of 2020 — that they dishonestly described as attempting to overturn the election,” Trump said in a statement.

“In fact, the opposite is true. The documents were intended to protect the integrity and honesty of elections, as well as the sanctity of the vote.”

The House Oversight Committee claimed Friday that then-President Trump attempted to pressure the Justice Department to overturn the election – a narrative Trump dismissed as a partisan attempt to obstruct investigations into the events of the 2020 presidential election, which he claims were twisted in President Joe Biden’s favor under the guise of COVID-19 safety and without the authority of state legislation.

“These handwritten notes show that in the final days of his presidency, President Trump directly directed our nation’s top law enforcement agency to take steps to overturn a free and fair election,” House Oversight Chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., said in a statement.
“The committee has begun scheduling interviews with key witnesses to investigate the full scope of the former president’s corruption, and I will use every tool at my disposal to ensure that all witness testimony is secured as soon as possible.”

Among the baseless claims was a handwritten note in which the former president simply stated, “We have an obligation to tell people that this was an illegal, corrupt election.”

In his Saturday statement, Trump stated that it was his responsibility to protect the integrity of the election process and to “stand with” those who seek to “fight for election integrity and to investigate attempts to undermine our nation.”

“The American people want and demand that the president of the United States, as the country’s chief law enforcement officer, fight for election integrity and investigate attempts to undermine our nation,” he said in a statement.

Trump concluded by reiterating his call for an investigation into the election process rather than attacking those who seek to achieve that goal.

“Our country has just experienced an incredibly corrupt presidential election, and it is time for Congress and others to investigate how such corruption was permitted to occur rather than investigating those who are exposing this massive fraud on the American people,” he concluded in his statement.
