The Seminole Tribe of Florida donated $1 million to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign committee, according to a recently filed financial report. The Seminole Tribe and the governor had an agreement last year over gaming.
The agreement signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis is thought to be the country’s largest and most comprehensive gaming compact with a tribe.
The agreement is anticipated to generate $2.5 billion in new income for the state over the following five years, with a total value of $6 billion by 2030.
The Friends of Ron DeSantis committee received donations totaling roughly $2.225 million between July 30 and August 5, the time period covered by the report, including the tribe’s contribution.
Additionally, the committee spent almost the same amount throughout the time period and had around $124.9 million in cash on hand as of August 5. Last year, DeSantis and the tribe reached an agreement that includes enabling the Seminoles to handle sports betting in the state.
The agreement, known as a compact, was passed by lawmakers, but it was subsequently overturned by a federal judge.
Sun Labs USA,Inc. of Tampa contributed $400,000 to DeSantis’ committee between July 30 and August 5.
Meanwhile, the group sent $1 million to the Republican Party of Florida and paid $1 million to the Republican Party of Ohio.
