Florida women's registration has not increased post-Roe v. Wade

Since Roe was overturned, the number of women registering to vote in Florida has increased by only 2%. According to one data analyst, college women could affect these figures.

The outcomes of a referendum held in Kansas on the issue of abortion continue to reverberate throughout the state’s political sphere. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, a 16 percent increase in women registering to vote helped defeat an abortion restriction measure in that red state.

In swing states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, female voter registration has increased by 6 percent.

However, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, only 2% more women have registered to vote in Florida.

Matthew Isbell, a political data consultant, believes this may have more to do with Florida’s demographics than a lack of interest in the abortion issue.

Regarding redistricting and voter trends, Isbell consults with primarily democratic campaigns.
According to him, the lack of a Roe bump in female voter registration is due to the fact that older voters in Florida are already registered.

When people move into The Villages, Miami Beach condos, or Boca Raton, they register almost immediately, according to Isbell.”They are immediately involved in the process. And, it’s both sexes.”

Isbell asserts that there is no gender disparity in abortion. Many men support abortion, while some women oppose it.

Inspired by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Isbell believes there is one group of female voters who could still register before the November elections: college women.

“If we’re talking about a pool of unregistered women who this could galvanize, I believe it exists only in Florida’s student and under-25 population,” Isbell explained.

Isbell stated that we will not know if this registration surge will occur until early to mid-October.
