Pelosi downplays Democrats’ support for Trump impeachment, says ‘it’s not even close’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday downplayed the support inside her caucus for impeaching President Trump, saying “It’s not even close in our caucus”.

During an event with journalists in Washington, Pelosi was questioned about the possibility of supporting the start of impeachment proceedings if more than half of her 235 Democratic members requested it. “It’s not even close in our caucus,” Pelosi replied.

Despite the main rejection, Pelosi assured that Impeachment is not off the table and that the Democrats will continue their investigations on the administration of Trump and its businesses.

“Why are we speculating with hypotheticals? What we are doing is winning in court. We won a victory by obtaining the documents from the Department of Justice (DOJ) today for fear of going to trial, “said the Speaker of the House.

Pelosi is currently facing growing pressure from Democrats, some committee chairs or members of his research team, at least 56 Democrats, who are betting on the start of an investigation to accuse the President of the United States.

“Impeachment is not off the table, I do not think you should challenge for political reasons and I do not think you should not challenge for political reasons. It is not about politics. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans. It is about patriotism for our country. It is about defending the Constitution of the United States, “reflected Pelosi.

However, Democrats in favor of Trump’s impeachment still represent less than a quarter of the total number of members needed to begin proceedings.

The situation has been revived after the publication of the full report of the special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, in charge of the investigation of the so-called “Russian plot”, where he concluded that there was no collusion between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign, although he did not exonerate the President of possible obstruction of justice.
