A report from Careersource reflects that Greater Miami, with an unemployment rate of 3.2% in June, is lower than the 3.8% registered national index.

Miami-Dade turned out to be the third-largest employment creation metropolitan area in Florida, creating 2,900 new jobs, after Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford and Tampa-San Petersburg-Clearwater.

Miami Dade County created 24,900 new non-farm jobs from June 2018 to the same date in 2019 and achieved a 2.1% increase, according to the report.

The greatest job creation took place in the Education and Health Services sectors, where 9,400 new jobs were registered. It was followed by the Leisure and Hospitality industry with 5,400, and Transportation and Logistics with 4,800 new jobs openings.

Meanwhile, 3,400 people were employed in the construction sector and another 1,600 workers in professional firm services.

In the information industry and the wholesale market, identical figures were registered with 400 new jobs respectively.

The study noted the fact that for the second consecutive month unemployment in Miami-Dade is 3.2%, which means an improvement of 0.8% compared to June 2018.

The national unemployment rate in June 2019 was 3.8%.

According to the report, the development of the local economy shows a positive process. However, the community needs to stay focused on projects that create jobs in industries of interest. These industries have been identified as having the highest salary levels in the county and unquestionably impacting the increase in the community’s quality of life.

For its part, the Miami-Dade Beacon Council business group, the platform created to promote the economic development of the community, said that it is necessary to continue working aggressively in order to attract new companies to the county and strive to achieve expansion and retention of existing businesses.

The job creation figures were obtained from the employment statistics program of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (CES). Although unemployment numbers were taken from the Local Area Statistics Program (LAUS).
