Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced a criminal investigation into Roblox Corporation, citing concerns that the online gaming platform has become a hub for predators targeting children.
The AGโs office has issued criminal subpoenas to Roblox, seeking internal records, moderation policies, and communications linked to alleged exploitation cases. Uthmeier described Roblox as a โbreeding ground for predators,โ emphasizing that his office is prioritizing the protection of minors in online spaces.
โRoblox has enabled our kids to be abused,โ Uthmeier stated. โCompanies like this have created spaces where predators can target children, and that will not be tolerated in Florida.โ
Focus of the Investigation
The Florida AGโs probe will examine Robloxโs safety systems, age verification, and content moderation processes to determine whether the company failed to prevent grooming and child exploitation.
Investigators allege that some offenders used Robux, the in-game virtual currency, to solicit explicit content or build inappropriate relationships with underage users. Authorities also report that several Florida-based criminal cases have stemmed from interactions within Robloxโs virtual worlds.
Roblox Responds to Criminal Inquiry
A Roblox spokesperson said the company is cooperating fully with law enforcement and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for exploitative content.
โWe have zero tolerance for exploitative behavior on our platform,โ Roblox said in a statement. โWe continue to strengthen our moderation tools, partner with child-safety organizations, and support law enforcement investigations.โ
Roblox says it employs AI moderation tools, human safety teams, and chat restrictions for users under 13, along with new age estimation technology designed to enhance user protection.
Growing Legal and Public Pressure
This investigation follows multiple lawsuits filed against Roblox in 2025 that accuse the company of failing to prevent predators from exploiting children online.
Digital safety experts and advocacy groups say the case underscores a broader issue with child safety in gaming and metaverse platforms, calling for stronger oversight and enforcement of age-appropriate design laws.
โThese platforms profit from young users but too often fail to safeguard them,โ said a child-safety advocate. โThe Florida investigation could set a national precedent for tech accountability.โ
What Happens Next
The Florida Attorney Generalโs office has not disclosed a timeline for the investigation but confirmed it may expand beyond state lines if evidence indicates systemic negligence.
With more than 70 million daily players, many under age 13, Robloxโs response to this criminal probe will likely shape future regulations around childrenโs online safety and gaming industry accountability.
