Miami-Dade Prosecutors Announce Major Human Trafficking Bust Involving Yachts And Hotels

MIAMI โ€” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle announced Tuesday the takedown of multiple human-trafficking cells accused of sexually exploiting women and minors across South Florida, including cases tied to luxury yachts and hotel operations.

Joined by police chiefs from Miami Springs, Miami Beach, Coral Gables and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Fernandez Rundle detailed a series of arrests after months of coordinated investigations targeting trafficking networks operating across state lines.

Authorities confirmed they rescued a young mother and her two-year-old daughter who had endured a brutal, multi-state cycle of exploitation before being freed in Miami-Dade.

A Cross-Country Ordeal

The most disturbing case involved Darrell โ€œHeffeโ€ Robertson and alleged accomplice Euโ€™Shunn โ€œNu Nuโ€ Thomas, accused of controlling and transporting a 20-year-old victim through at least nine U.S. cities, including New Orleans, Memphis, Philadelphia, and New York.

Investigators say Robertson forced the woman into prostitution, imposed a daily $1,000 quota, and used narcotics to keep her awake for extended periods.

One of the most shocking elements of the case: Robertson allegedly forced the victim to tattoo a red high-heel shoe on her body โ€” a personal โ€œownership markโ€ he used on women he exploited.

The victim managed to escape after calling 911 from the Parkway Inn hotel in Miami Springs following a violent assault. Police officers trained in trafficking recognition secured the woman and her child and arrested both suspects.

Robertson now faces charges including human trafficking, interstate transport for exploitation, assault, and physically branding the victim.

Yacht Operator Arrested for Exploiting Minor

Authorities also disclosed the arrest of Kutay Satiroglu, a Miami Beach yacht-charter operator accused of targeting a 17-year-old girl.

What began as a supposed romantic relationship and job offer quickly became a coercive situation in which the minor was allegedly held for sexual purposes aboard vessels and at nearby locations.

Hotel Sting Leads to Multiple Arrests

Meanwhile, the Coral Gables Police Department executed Operation Sanctuary Shield, an undercover action using online escort platforms to lure suspected traffickers.

The sting resulted in six arrests at a local hotel, including Franyelin Toledo and Jeanfrank Canizalez, who also face child-neglect charges after officers discovered a minor living in unsafe conditions inside their shared residence.

Florida Ranked Third Nationwide in Human-Trafficking Reports

Fernandez Rundle warned that Floridaโ€™s ranking as third in the nation for human-trafficking reports requires constant vigilance and aggressive multi-agency intervention.

HSI Special Agent in Charge Jose Figueredo emphasized that cooperation between federal and local teams was key to tracking traffickers across jurisdictions and gathering evidence for prosecution.

Law-enforcement leaders said the arrests send a strong, direct message to criminal networks operating in South Florida.

Officials reaffirmed that ongoing strategy focuses not only on arresting traffickers, but on dismantling the financial and logistical infrastructure that enables human exploitation across the region.
