The 76 percent of the people who tuned in this Tuesday night for the State of the Union speech approved the words of president Donald Trump and his strategy on immigration, according to a survey conducted by CBS network.
The majority of the respondents, 72% percent, approves Trump’s strategy on immigration expressed in the speech, which includes the construction of a wall or physical barrier; 28% oppose it. In this regard, 71% believe that there is a crisis on the US Southern border, compared to 29% who do not think so.
After the speech, the number of people who identify as Republicans grew from 25% to 43%, says the CBS News note. Only 24% identified themselves as Democrats and 30% as independent.
97% of Republicans approved the speech, compared to 30% of Democrats and 82% of independents.
Regarding the president’s call for unity, 56% of the Americans who followed the State of the Union believe that Trump’s speech “could have done more to unite the country”, while 36% think that “it will not change a lot of things. ” Only 15% of Democrats believe that the president’s speech will unite the country, according to the CBS poll.
The CBS survey conducted by YouGov is based on interviews with 1,472 adults who watched the State of the Nation speech Tuesday night.
