Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum and his campaign associates have been summoned by a federal grand jury to obtain information about the development of his Florida Gubernatorial Campaign, the media has reported.

The Tampa Bay Times newspaper obtained a copy of the subpoena, which requested information on John Jackson, executive chairman of the Schott Foundation for Public Education, based in Massachusetts, where Gillum was a board member until 2017 and the action group Opportunity to Learn, where Gillum was president until at least 2017.

In addition, Donald Sussman, who donated $ 1.5 million for the Gillum campaign, and Sharon Lettman-Hicks, executive director of the National Commission of Black Justice, an LGBTQ advocacy group, were also cited.

“We are ready to help in any revision of our work because I trust that we have always done the right thing and we comply with the law,” said Gillum.

The grand jury’s investigations are secret, so the newspaper did not receive details about what the grand jury might be investigating.

On the other hand, the FBI can not comment on it either.

During the campaign, Gillum rejected questions related to an ongoing FBI investigation into corruption in the Tallahassee city government while he was mayor, and said he had met with investigators and told him he was not the focus of the investigation.

In fact, an undercover FBI investigator posed as an urban developer seeking to secure a project, and accompanied Gillum and other Florida City officials on a trip to New York, even providing tickets to the Broadway musical Hamilton.

Gillum recently agreed to pay a $ 5,000 ethics penalty fine in relation to those issues and has not been charged with any crime.

So far, the FBI operation has resulted in more than 40 charges against Scott Maddox, former City of Tallahassee Commissioner and former president of the Democratic Party of Florida, Paige Carter-Smith, associate of Maddox, and JT Burnette, a developer of Tallahassee.

The charges include mail fraud, electronic fraud, and extortion related to payments to Maddox to take action on city affairs.
