Gun store in Texas faces backlash over back-to-school gun sale ad

A gun store in Katy, Texas was heavily criticized on social media and facing backlash after offering discounts on weapons under the “back to school” special sale.

According to reports from ABC 13, Boyert Shooting Center placed a 50 percent discount on the purchase of weapons at the beginning of this month between August 13 and 18, prior to students re-entering the classrooms for the 2019-2020 school year.

One of the local TV viewers sent a picture of the sign on Mason Road, in Katy, Texas, located within the Houston metropolitan area.

The sign reading “Back to school sale” faced an outraged reaction because of recent shootings that have occurred in schools in recent months, and a few days after the massacre at the Walmart located in the Cielo Vista shopping center in El Paso, Texas.

Boyert Shooting Center said in its marquee that the discount was aimed at “All teachers and students”, who could have discounts of up to 50 percent on merchandise and shooting classes.

Michelle Simons, an ABC 13 viewer was surprised by the sign.

“It was so jarring. Did I really see that? ”She exclaimed in an interview.

She pointed out that her husband is a school teacher and that even though he tried to justify the content of the sign, he could not see the relationship between weapons and schools.

Boyert Shooting Center sent the TV station the following statement:

“We have friends and family who are teachers and our way of reaching out and saying thank you is by offering a summer-long promotion of discounted training courses, firearms, and accessories. A lot of Texans are not aware, but it is now legal to conceal carry in some colleges, and for teachers in certain school districts to conceal carry as well. We are wrapping up the program that we have been running since the beginning of June, with a huge sale to benefit everyone. ”
