The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, SFRTA, announced on Sunday via Twitter the suspension of the Tri-Rail train service linking the cities of West Palm Beach and Miami as Category 5 hurricane Dorian approaches de Florida coast.

Steven L. Abrams, executive director of SFRTA, through a video from the Tri Rail operations center, said services will be suspended after the last scheduled departure on Sunday.

Abrams said the strong winds and rains associated with Dorian are expected to impact the northern corridor of the rail service, which is why it was decided to suspend all departures from the first hours of Monday, September 2 and until further notice.

“We will work as agile as we can after the storm passes to put our trains into operation,” said the executive director of SFRTA, and explained that they will continue to provide information on the restoration of the service through their platforms on Twitter, Facebook and through customer service phones.

He also called the residents of South Florida to “stay safe” during the storm’s scourge, which hit the Bahamas on the afternoon with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour, making it the hurricane more powerful in the region according to records.

The Tri-Rail customer service phone number 1-800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245) they will have a recorded message with a status updated daily until the train service is back up and running.
