Philadelphia man pleads guilty for trying to hack Trump’s tax returns

A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to trying to hack the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to obtain President Donald Trump’s tax returns.

Andrew Harris, 23, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to two counts of computer fraud. Harris now faces up to two years in prison and a $200,000 fine.

Harris and Justin Hiemstra, 22, were students in 2016 when they used a computer lab at Haverford College, just outside Philadelphia, to open a fraudulent request for financial aid for an unnamed member of the Trump family.

The students managed to establish a password and then used the social security number and Trump’s date of birth to try to import Trump’s tax information into the form, according to court documents.

The IRS and the Department of Education detected the fraudulent attempts.

Trump has refused to disclose his tax returns, saying they are under audit.

Hiemstra pleaded guilty on August 6. Both will be sentenced on December 16.
