Trump Orders Troops to Portland, Authorizes “Full Force”

President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has ordered the deployment of U.S. troops to Portland, Oregon, authorizing the use of “full force” if necessary.

“I am directing Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland and any of our ICE facilities under siege from Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary.”

The move marks another expansion of federal troop deployments into American cities, as the Trump administration ramps up its crackdown on illegal immigration and left-wing protest groups.

Local Pushback

Portland’s Democratic mayor, Keith Wilson, has repeatedly opposed federal intervention. “I have not asked for — and do not need — federal intervention,” he said earlier this month.

Democratic lawmakers from Oregon also condemned Trump’s remarks, accusing ICE of detaining residents without cause.

Context

Earlier this week, Trump signed an order officially designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. He has repeatedly described Portland as “like living in hell” and hinted at a large-scale operation against “professional agitators and anarchists.”

The announcement did not specify whether Trump intends to deploy the National Guard or regular U.S. military forces. The Department of War has not commented.
