Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is drawing a sharp contrast with Democrats in a new campaign advertisement released Wednesday, framing Florida’s 2026 Governor’s race as a battle over freedom, parental rights, taxes, and government control.
The ad, released by a political committee supporting Donalds, marks one of the first major television and digital campaign messages since the Naples congressman officially qualified for the ballot earlier this week.
“These radical Democrats don’t want to solve problems. They just want power — power to spend your money, control your healthcare, and raise your kids,” Donalds says in the advertisement.
The spot features footage of various political demonstrations and progressive activists, including images from anti-Trump protests and scenes from contentious legislative debates in Tallahassee.
Donalds argues that Florida’s future depends on maintaining conservative policies that have helped fuel the state’s economic and population growth.
“In my Florida, that’s not happening,” Donalds says.
The congressman outlines several priorities in the ad, including reducing property taxes, protecting parental rights in education, and expanding healthcare choice.
“I’ll cut property taxes, let you pick your own doctor, and protect the rights of Moms and Dads,” Donalds says.
The ad concludes with a direct appeal to conservative voters.
“The left-wing radicals hate me. And they should. Because I’ll never let them take that power away from you.”
Donalds enters the next phase of the campaign as the clear Republican frontrunner. Backed by President Donald Trump’s endorsement, he has built a substantial political operation that continues to outpace rivals in fundraising and polling.
Campaign finance reports show Donalds and affiliated political committees have amassed more than $81 million, giving him a significant advantage over the rest of the Republican field.
Former House Speaker Paul Renner and Lt. Gov. Jay Collins remain in the race and have called for debates, though no formal debate schedule has been announced.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has remained publicly neutral in the contest to succeed him, though he has previously noted that Donalds was not directly involved in many of the policy battles that helped transform Florida into a Republican stronghold over the past several years.
On the Democratic side, former Congressman David Jolly has emerged as the party’s leading candidate after Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings suspended his campaign following a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Donalds has repeatedly argued that a Democratic victory would reverse many of the policies enacted under Republican leadership and move Florida closer to states such as California, New York, Illinois, and Virginia.
