Florida prepares for the arrival of powerful hurricane Dorian

Florida residents are preparing and stocking up on food and drinking water while they wait for the powerful Hurricane Dorian when it is still unclear where it will land during Labor Day weekend.

President Donald Trump has said it could be an “absolute monster,” in a video posted on his Twitter account that offers indications about the storm.

“Everything indicates that it will hit very hard and that it will be very large,” Trump said. He compared Dorian with Hurricane Andrew, which swept through South Florida in 1992.

In the early hours of Friday, Dorian’s Vortex was about 260 miles east of the Bahamas, with winds of 105 mph and was moving northwest at 12 mph.

In the early hours of Friday, Dorians Vortex was about 260 miles east of the Bahamas, with winds of 105 mph and was moving northwest at 12 mph.

During the night, the Bahamas government issued a hurricane alert for the northwest of the country.

The Category 2 storm is expected to continue to grow until it reaches a potentially catastrophic Category 4 with winds of 130 miles per hour, and land on the south east coast on Monday somewhere between the Florida Keys and the South of Georgia, a strip of 500 miles that reflects the high level of uncertainty at this time, according to the National Hurricane Center.

“If it touches land like a category 3 or 4 hurricane, that’s a big problem,” said Brian McNoldy, a hurricane researcher at the University of Miami. “A lot of people will be affected. There are going to be many claims to insurers.”

President Donald Trump canceled his weekend trip to Poland and declared that Florida “will be totally ready.”

So far no mass evacuations have been ordered, because the trajectory is not clear.

However, in Florida measures were taken this week, when an emergency was declared by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Local governments began distributing sandbags, consumers rushed to buy can foods, wood to cover windows, and other emergency supplies and motorists topped off their cars with gas. Some fuel shortages were reported in the Cape Canaveral area.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Dorian reached category 3 and maintains sustained winds of 115 mph, and moves northwest at 9 miles per hour.

According to the report, the center of the hurricane would cross the Bahamas and enter Florida with sustained winds of 130 miles per hour, about 209 km / h, Monday night.

However, “any atmospheric changes, the advance of high pressure could divert the course to one side or the other,” the meteorological part emphasized again.
