Poll: Two thirds of Republicans want Trump to run again in 2024

According to a recent Morning Consult/Politico survey, two-thirds of Republican respondents favor Trump running for president again in 2024, something he has claimed he will do but has not confirmed.

While 67 percent of Republican respondents approved, nearly half of conservative respondents indicated they would vote for Trump in a presidential primary today, while only 29% are opposed to another run.

While Trump has high popularity among Republicans, his support is more divided among Independents and practically nonexistent among Democrats.

Independents were divided on whether Trump should return to politics and run for president again, with 58 percent opposing the notion. Approximately 86 percent of Democrats agreed. Overall, 59 percent of people say Trump should not run again.

For Republicans who do not want Trump to run again, there does not appear to be a viable alternative to the former president.

Potential rivals Mike Pence and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are polling at 26 percent and 20 percent of Republicans who do not want Trump to run again, respectively.
When all GOP voters are included, support for the two possible candidates falls to 13 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

After Pence and DeSantis, frequent Trump opponents such as Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) received single-digit support.

Even Republicans who do not want Trump to run again had a good opinion of him, with 82 percent of Republican respondents having a favorable opinion of the former president and only 17 percent having a negative opinion.

Other possible candidates, including his son Donald Trump Jr., Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri), and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, had 1% or less support in the survey of 1,999 registered voters.
