Border protection agents make largest fentanyl bust in US-Mexico border

Customs and Border Protection agents seized a “historic” shipment of fentanyl, the deadly synthetic opioid that a commercial truck tried to cross through the US-Mexico border port of entry in Nogales, Arizona, authorities reported today.

The director of the post in Nogales, Michael Humphites, said in a press conference that the drug, 254 pounds, was hidden in a truck that transported produce from Mexico and that crossed last Saturday through the Nogales-Mariposa Arizona Port of Entry .

President Donald Trump highlighted the work of the authorities, through Twitter: “Our excellent agents of the US border patrol made the largest bust of fentanyl in the history of our country.” Thanks, as always, for a job well done. ”

The customs authorities, which require the inspection of cargo vehicles crossing through that specialized booth for trucks, discovered the cargo, which they described as “historic”.

The agents also seized 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of fentanyl pills in the same truck and found a compartment where they were hiding methamphetamine.

The driver of the truck, a man of Mexican nationality, was arrested, according to CBP.

The authorities indicated that the traffickers are trying to pass the drug through the different ports of entry of the US southern border.

In recent months there have been several seizures in passenger vehicles and in people trying to cross walking and bringing drugs hidden in their bodies.
