High school student accused of assaulting classmate with MAGA hat

Kenneth Dewayne Jones, an 18-year-old African-American student, was charged with assault and battery against Lane Roberson, a classmate who wore a MAGA hat “Make America Great Again”, identifying him as a supporter of the American president, Donald Trump.

The charges against Jones were filed in a city court in Edmond, Oklahoma, city attorney Steve Murdock told local media. The accusation occurred after Jones appeared on a video hitting the MAGA hat of his 17-year-old partner, while both were at Santa Fe High School.

The incident of discord occurred last month, during the annual Double Wolf Dare week, which was held at the school. In the video, you can hear Jones threatening his partner while he says “Take it off or I’ll tear it away … Do you want me to take it away?”

Roberson’s family issued a press release after the incident, where he reported that they were notified of Jones’ “assault” on his son and that the school had not done anything about it.

Similarly, they were proud that their son continues with the demand, ensuring that “we are proud that our son has shown and will continue to demonstrate his patriotism, his love for his country and his support to the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump. “

For his part, Jones received an official letter from the school’s management. Meanwhile, both families began a mediation process, although until now they have not reached an agreement.
