RNC considers resolution declaring Trump presumptive 2024 nominee

The Republican National Committee is poised to discuss a resolution in the upcoming week regarding the declaration of Donald Trump as the party’s “presumptive 2024 nominee.”

The measure, as outlined in a draft obtained Thursday by the media, states that President Trump is being declared as the presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States. It also signifies a shift into full general election mode, where supporters of all candidates are welcomed as valued members of Team Trump 2024.

A significant section of the draft resolution states, RESOLVED that the Republican National Committee hereby declares President Trump as our presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States and from this moment forward moves into full general election mode welcoming supporters of all candidates as valued members of Team Trump 2024,”

The resolution, which would not change the requirement that Trump win the primary in order to claim the nomination, was proposed by David Bossie, a committeeman for the Republican National Committee who is aligned with Trump.

It is worth noting that this decision is being made despite the fact that only two states have held their primaries and Trump currently lacks the necessary number of delegates to secure the nomination. If the measure is approved, it would strengthen Trump’s grip on the party and its operations. This comes at a time when former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley is still vying for the GOP nomination against Trump.

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel has already indicated her approval. After Haley’s second-place finish to Trump in New Hampshire, McDaniel expressed her admiration for the former ambassador’s campaign. However, she emphasized the importance of Republican unity behind the eventual nominee, who is expected to be Donald Trump.

The resolution has emerged just in time for the upcoming RNC winter meeting in Las Vegas. It is anticipated that this topic will be a focal point of discussion during the event.

There is historical evidence of the committee declaring a candidate the presumptive nominee even before securing the required 1,215 delegates to win the nomination. In May 2016, Reince Priebus, the then-RNC Chairman, declared Trump the presumptive nominee before he had secured the necessary number of delegates.
